TAKEOFF POINT:  VICTORIA POINT JETTY

To get to Coochie, you need to get to the Victoria Point jetty (not Redland Bay jetty) on Masters Avenue and then take a short (< 10 minutes), pleasant ferry/barge ride across the bay to the island. Coochie is in plain view from the Victoria Point jetty.  Ferry and barge services to Coochiemudlo Island are available only from the Victoria Point jetty on Masters Avenue.

If using public transport, we suggest that you use Translink’s journey planner to check out the different ways to get to Coochie. It automatically develops travel options via public transport based on the origin and destination points of your trip.  Alternatively, you can also call Translink on 13 12 30.  There are two ways to get to the Victoria Point Jetty via public transport:

  • Through Cleveland – Train service is available to Cleveland.  From there, you need to grab a bus to the Victoria Point Shops, and then another bus from there to the Victoria Point Jetty
  • Through Capalaba – Both the 270 and 271 will take you to the Victoria Point Jetty from Capalaba .

If you’re taking off from Brisbane, the 271 (1 hour, 40 minutes) and the 279 (1 hour, 20 minutes) will take you right to the Victoria Point Jetty.

PARKING AROUND VICTORIA POINT JETTY

There are free 6-, 12- and 18-hour public parking areas in the immediate vicinity of the jetty.  However, Coochie residents already use these parking slots heavily (parking on the mainland is a continuing issue for Islanders).  Additionally, on weekends, some of these parking slots are designated for vehicles with boat trailers. You will find that, during holiday weekends, in particular, parking can be very tight around the jetty.  Please follow the parking restriction notices as Redland City Council (RCC) will have no qualms issuing parking tickets to those who do not.   There are unlimited parking areas a bit further away — inconvenient,  perhaps, but better that betting your luck against RCC.

Please be considerate when you’re driving on the island: drive like you’re on a shared pathway (with pedestrians, kids on bikes — and all the two- and four-legged residents who have no idea what a speeding vehicle will do to them).  And please do not unnecessarily stir dust in unpaved roads as that will make for a miserable day to nearby residents.
