Mural a big hit

Bayside BulletinREDLAND City Mayor Melva Hobson congratulated the Coochiemudlo Island children who designed and painted a special mural when she officially opened the community’s new tennis court on sports Open Day.

Sixteen children aged from three to 14 years worked on the mural which helps celebrates the positive aspects of island life and Coochie’s marine environment.

Sports Open Day involved Coochie residents and visitors in games of tennis, croquet and lawn bowls in friendly competition using the new recreational facilities.

The Coochiemudlo Island Recreation Club was granted $55,000 to upgrade the tennis courts, $19,000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to upgrade the croquet court and equipment shelter, and a Lord Mayor’s small grant of $500.00 for the painting of a mural on the rear of the tennis court practice wall.

Local artist, Nadine Archibald organised the mural, which she did via a series of workshops.

The mural and refurbishments were officially opened by Mayor Melva Hobson and Member for Redlands, Peter Dowling.
