Help for Coochiemudlo barge services

Just as things were starting to look bleak for Coochiemudlo Island residents and businesses struggling to adapt to the lack of Megamia barge services, one local enterprise has stepped in to help.

Amity Trading Propriety Limited has contracted its six-vehicle barge, the Scorpio, to the usual operator, Megamia Barges, running services from midday on Monday to Thursday afternoons.

While it means weekend services are still restricted, islanders are relieved that at least some services are functioning.

Owner Steve Wallace said he appreciated the situation of the current operator, whose barge Megamia and a second vessel, Sirenia, have been unable to service the island since September.

Redland City Council has issued a temporary licence to enable the Scorpio to service customers, with a large part of the role being the transport of council vehicles to remove island rubbish.
