RESIDENTS and visitors to Coochiemudlo Island have been left stranded after the island’s barge run aground earlier today.

The vessel operated by Megamia Barges is stuck after leaving Victoria Point with a full load of vehicles. The passengers have been taken off the barge with the help of locals’ dinghies.

A Coochiemudlo resident, who did not want to named, said stuck offshore closer to the island with barge operators having to wait until tomorrow’s high tide at 12.49pm to refloat the vessel.

“The people have been taken ashore on dinghies and all the goods and vehicle have been left on the barge.”

” Tonight’s high tide isn’t big enough so they have to wait until tomorrow’s high tide.”

Megamia Barges could not be reached by the Wynnum Herald.
